Color Flows

Like Tibetan sand paintings, impermanence and spontaneity are central to this series. I meticulously draw with ink and watercolor onto untreated canvas or foam texture treated with water-resistant paint. Any pretense of control gives way to pure chance when I spray the repellent surfaces with water.

The flow washes away most of the careful work and all of the intentional struggle. Only the emotion in the color splashes remains, along with spontaneous rivers that trace the landscape of the canvas. Smooth pools of intense pigment provide deep underlying calm to contrast the turbulent surface texture.
